$500 Million Green Iron Investment Fund

The Federal Government is inviting eligible entities to apply for grant funding, on a co-contribution basis, to help supercharge Australia’s iron ore industry by value-adding existing facilities and greenfield projects based in Australia.

Eligible applicants will:

  • Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN)

  • Be registered for GST

  • Be one of the following entities:

    • An Australian incorporated entity

    • A company limited by guarantee

    • An incorporated trustee on behalf of a trust (where trading activities form a sufficiently significant proportion of the corporations overall activities)

Applicants may partner with one or more other organisations, however the lead applicant must meet all eligibility criteria.

Eligible projects must:

  • Be completed by 31 March 2031

  • Be located in Australia

  • Be aimed at establishing a commercial scale green iron facility

  • Be focussed on capital works

Applicants can apply for grant funding to cover up to 25% of eligible project expenditure (grant percentage). The remaining 75% of eligible costs must be funded by the applicant from other sources.

Other Government funding can be contributed however:

  • No more than 65% of the total eligible project expenditure can be sourced from Commonwealth, State, Territory or Local Government Grants (including this grant)

  • The project cannot be entirely funded from Government backed sources.

  • Applicants with evidence of private investment funding will be considered stronger during assessment.

Applications must be submitted by 16 January 2026 (5:00pm AEDT).
