Up to $5 million for Grid Enhancing Technologies

The Federal Government are offering grant funding up to $5 million to cover up to 100% of eligible expenditure to accelerate the development, trialling, uptake and deployment / application of grid enhancing technologies for Australian electricity networks.

The Grid Enhancing Technologies program provides opportunity for eligible businesses to apply for competitive grant funding between $250,000 and up to $5 million to support projects which will help to maximise capacity and utilisation of existing infrastructure in Australian electricity networks to support delivery of secure, reliable and affordable energy to consumers.

Intended Program Outcomes:

  • Greater utilisation and productivity of existing network infrastructure allowing more renewable energy to flow to consumers faster, putting downward pressure on wholesale power prices

  • Address congestion ‘black spots’ in existing networks reducing curtailment of renewable energy generation while improving reliability and capacity at the edge of the grid

  • Reducing or delaying the need for additional network infrastructure, lowering the network cost component of energy bills, reduce impact on the environment and communities hosting infrastructure relative to greenfield transmission

  • Improve network visibility and control, leading to enhanced resilience and safety for bushfire, extreme weather events, cyber security and other system security, reliability and recovery benefits

Applicant Entities:

  • Have an ABN & be registered for GST

  • Be a non-income tax exempt entity incorporated in Australia

  • A university

  • A publicly funded research organisation (PFRO)

  • A Commonwealth, state, territory or local government body

Applicants may partner with other organisations to deliver a project, with an eligible entity appointed the lead applicant organisations. The lead organisation will submit the application form and enter into the funding agreement with the Commonwealth should the application be successful.

Applications must be submitted by Monday 11th August, 5PM (AEST).
