Grant funding for research addressing national security and intelligence challenges

The Australian Government are inviting eligible applicants to submit an Expression of Interest to apply for funding up to $800,000 to support pioneering research aligned with Australia’s intelligence challenges.

The NIDG (National Intelligence Discovery Grants) aims to support innovative research that deepens understanding of emerging science and technology that addresses intelligence and national security interests.

Eligibility:

  • Your EOI and full application must address one or more of the Intelligence Challenges

  • EOI applications must include at least one Chief Investigator and one Eligible Organisation (listed in the guidelines and includes most Australian Universities)

  • Additional eligibility around other participating organisations, researchers & investigators is outlined in the program guidelines

Intelligence Challenges:

  • Covert collection challenges

  • Space based technology challenges

  • Identity management challenges

  • Emerging biological challenges

  • emerging material science challenges

  • Cyber security, protective security and physical security challenges

  • Human behaviour and influence challenges

  • Data driven and real-time analytical challenges

  • Situation awareness and multi-source assessment challenges

Expressions of Interest must be submitted by 5:00pm (ACT local time) on 18 September 2025.
